Forest School
At Sedbergh Primary School, we value the importance of outdoor learning and the many benefits it brings to children’s development. Through our Forest School programme, children have regular opportunities to explore, investigate and learn in a natural environment, developing confidence, resilience and independence along the way. By engaging in hands-on experiences such as problem-solving, teamwork, risk assessment and nature-based activities, pupils gain vital life skills that support both their academic learning and personal growth.
Our youngest children in EYFS enjoy a weekly outdoor learning session called Welly Wednesday, where they explore the natural world through play, discovery and investigation. In Year 1, children continue to develop their outdoor learning skills through Forest Friday, a weekly Forest School session that builds confidence, creativity and independence. Children in Years 2 to 6 take part in a half-term block of weekly Forest School sessions each Thursday, run by Mrs Kenyon, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to benefit from regular, high-quality outdoor learning experiences throughout their time at school.
We believe that learning outdoors inspires curiosity, fosters a love of the natural world and helps every child develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive.
