Welcome to
Elder 1 – Nursery
In our EYFS we aim to provide a challenging and stimulating environment with an engaging curriculum designed to enable all children to reach their potential.
Below you will find all the information needed about our fabulous nursery. Throughout the year Class Dojo will be updated with news and pictures to show you the fun we have in our nursery class.
Our Nursery offers both 15 and 30 hours provision. This is free for parents who are eligible – check www.gov.uk to find out if you may be eligible. If you aren’t, we can still offer 30 hours at a cost. Please speak to Mrs Scarr in the office or any member of the EYFS team if you want more information about Nursery provision.
Summer letter 2026
Welcome back for the summer term. We are delighted to welcome one new child as a Rising Three this term. If your child is new to Nursery, we hope you and your child will enjoy your time with us. Please don’t hesitate to talk to us if you have any questions or concerns.
Personal, Social & Emotional Development
We will be continuing to encourage positive relationships within Nursery and to make sure that the children understand our class rules for a happy Nursery. We will continue to promote kind hands and kind words and remind of our school rules ‘ready, respectful and safe!’
Communication & Language
We will continue to focus on developing strong skills in listening, attention and understanding. We will also be encouraging children’s confidence in speaking in play and group situations.
Physical Development
We will be planning activities to develop children’s gross and fine motor skills.
For those children moving to Reception in September, we will be focusing on developing their pencil grip.
The children will have access to the outdoors to develop strong gross motor skills through big movements, balance and coordination. We will have fine motor activities in our classroom, which will all help to develop the muscle strength and dexterity to work towards a good pencil grip.
The last day of this half term is Friday 22nd May. Next half term will begin on Monday 1st June. School closes for the summer holidays on Friday 17th July at 2:00pm.

Curriculum Information
This term we will be covering two themes: ‘Growth and Change’ and ‘Transport’. Our first topic is based on the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar, where we will be learning all about the life cycle of a caterpillar. We will then move on to the traditional tale Jack and the Beanstalk, where we will plant our own beans and use our imagination to think about what might be at the top of the beanstalk.
Throughout these topics, we will be thinking carefully about how to care for living things, what plants need to grow, and how they change over time.
Our final topic will focus on transport, where we will explore different methods of transport, including cars, buses, trains and aeroplanes. We will learn about how transport has changed over time, compare old and new vehicles, and talk about how we travel in our everyday lives. The children will also have opportunities to build their own vehicles, take part in imaginative play, and learn about how to stay safe when travelling.
Alongside this, we will begin supporting the children with their transition into Reception, helping them to develop independence, confidence, and the skills they will need for the next stage of their learning journey.
We will be enjoying our Welly Wednesday sessions and noticing signs of summer as our seasons change.
We will be sending our new families an invitation to join Class Dojo. This will enable parents to read messages, see class stories of activities we do and to see your own child’s individual profile.
If any of your contact numbers have changed please tell Mrs Scarr in the office.
