Welcome to
Year 4 – Ash Class
Summer letter 2026
Welcome back to the last term of this academic year. Incredible how time flies! The teachers in Ash class are unchanged, apart from this term, the children will also be taught various lessons by a PGCE student from University of Cumbria.
The term is jam-packed with more exciting topics and activities to keep our learning going! We will kick start the term by reading a few Greek myths and then move onto “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane”.
Our main topic is a history one, based on the Ancient Greeks. During the second-half of term, we will be having a Greek day where we will be dressing up as ancient Greeks. More details about the day will be issued nearer the time.
Other dates organised so far for your diary are as follows:
Wednesday 22nd April 2026 – afternoon session – Rawthey River fieldwork
Tuesday 19th May 2026 – Stone Age day with Tim Deighton (more information will be issued shortly)
Monday 29th June 2026 – Outdoor pursuits – rock climbing at Hutton Roof
For Science, we will be studying two topics; the first one on” Living things and their habitats”, followed by “Electricity”. A list of home-learning activities to consolidate learning on the Ancient Greeks and both the Science topics will be distributed during the first week of term. Please could you help your child complete as many activities as they can. It is an opportunity to share and discuss aspects of our learning. Also a list of spellings will be heading home; again please could you assist your child to learn these on a weekly basis.
As before, Maths and English lessons are taught in the mornings. As always, please could you listen to your child read on a regular basis, and enter comments in their reading diary. The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) for the majority of Year 4 children will take place between Monday 1st June and Friday 8th June, so it would be good to work very hard on learning all the times tables up to 12×12. The children have 25 questions with 6 seconds to answer, so it is important to work on the recall speed. Other subjects are taught in the afternoons. Just a gentle reminder that P.E. lessons are on Tuesday afternoon (Calvin) and Thursday afternoon (Mrs Davies), so please ensure school P.E. kit is in school on these days.
As always, if there are any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Other whole school events and arrangements will be communicated to you via the Parentapps Connect.
An exciting time ahead! The Ash team and I are so looking forward to it and we hope you are too!
Mrs D and the Ash class team.
