Welcome to
Year 4 – Ash Class
Spring letter 2026
Happy New Year to you all and welcome back for more learning in Ash class!
We start straight away with a Geography topic on Countries and Capitals that will focus on both physical and human geography. This will then be followed by another Geography based topic on Rivers. For Science, we are studying Animals, including Humans, where we will be looking at teeth and the digestive system, plus habitats.
Swimming lessons will continue on Thursday afternoon. Calvin Moorhead’s P.E. sessions with continue to be on a Tuesday afternoon. Keeping up with tradition, Ash class will once again perform at the Brewery Dance Platform on Wednesday 18th March (letters already distributed to you before Christmas break). Please could you ensure you have returned the consent form and refer to the dates regarding the purchase of tickets, as they do go quickly. Although, the performance takes place near the end of the term, the children will start practising quite soon so it would be very helpful if P.E kit is kept in school to avoid any issues about forgotten kit! More correspondence regarding the event will follow nearer the time.
Our two books for this term will be “Kensuke’s Kingdom” and “Varjak Paw”. Both incredible reads that I am sure the children will thoroughly enjoy. Between us we need to continue to nurture your child’s enjoyment of reading. Your child will bring home his/her reading book each night, which they return to school each day. Please could you listen to him/her regularly and enter any comments in their reading diary. It is very important that they read out loud to an adult on a regular basis, and talk about what they are reading to ensure a good level of comprehension is achieved.
Spelling challenges continue to be on a Friday morning. Your child will now have a new set of words to learn for this half term. Also, your child will be having a times tables challenge on a weekly basis. To help them learn their times table facts, I will set various battles on TimesTables Rockstars during the term. We would really appreciate you take the time to help your child learn the spellings and times tables in preparation for their weekly challenges. Children in Year 4 need to really start to learn their times tables up to 12 x 12, in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check in the summer (June 2026).
In addition, your child will be given a list of activities linked to our Geography and Science topics to do for Home Learning. This is a great opportunity for parents and child to work together and talk about their learning. Also, brass lessons with Richard will continue on a Thursday afternoon, so please could you ensure your child remembers to bring in their instrument.
Other whole school events and arrangements will be communicated to you via the school website or app. Thank you for your support.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Davies.
