Welcome to
Year 3 – Beech Class
Autumn Term 2025
A warm welcome to Beech Class – operating as Year 3.
It’s going to be a busy term and here is a little of what’s to come:
This half term, Year 3 will be covering two main topics in detail:
- history topic: Changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age.
- science topic: States of Matter.
P.E. lessons will be taught on a Tuesday afternoon (with Calvin Moorhead) and swimming lessons will be on a Thursday afternoon with Mr. Cayley. Please can children have their P.E. kits in school all the time in case they are needed for other activities and also make sure they have their swimming gear (costume, towel, goggles, brush for their hair, bag to carry their kit in) every Thursday. Swimming starts on Thursday 18th September and will run for ten weeks, every Thursday. Waterproof coats are required to protect the children from undesirable weather on their trip to and from the swimming pool. During the second P.E. session (Tuesday afternoons), Year 5 will be improving their skills in a variety of ball sports.
In Maths lessons, we will follow a mix of schemes in order to fully cover the curriculum. It is vitally important for your child to become secure with their ability to recall times tables facts, so please play times tables games at home to help them achieve this target.
In English, we will start off with the book: ‘The Iron Man’. A lot of our early creative writing will be related to this book.
Music sessions will follow the Music Express scheme of work.
R.E. will be taught by Mrs. Kenyon on a Tuesday afternoon.
Homework consists of daily reading aloud to an adult and weekly spellings (please make the learning of spellings a fun activity by playing games). A spelling ‘quiz’ will take place every Friday morning. TT Rock Stars is still available to help secure times table knowledge. There will also be a fun home learning sheet with plenty of ideas / activities.
Our first small outing will be to the Sedbergh Community Orchard on Monday 22nd September, when the class will learn about pollination and minibeasts.
If you have any enquires, thoughts or resources that may be helpful, then please don’t hesitate to contact me.
