Staff changes in January

Tuesday 20th November 2018

Dear parents, carers and families,

As you know, Mr Banner is leaving us at Christmas to start a new job as the head teacher of Kirkby Thore School in the Eden Valley. I am writing to update you all on school organisation from January 2019.

At Christmas, Mrs Livesey will move classes to teach the Year 2 children. Mrs Betty Stephenson, who trained in Year 1 last summer, will take over the teaching of the Year 1 class. Mrs Livesey will also take over the role of Special Needs Co-ordinator for children in school who need additional help with their learning.

You are probably wondering why Mrs Livesey is moving classes. This is because in September 2019 we will continue with our school re-organisation; the Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children will be spread across 2 classes instead of 3. The children who are in Year 1 now will have Mrs Livesey as their teacher again next year, when they are in Year 2. I hope that this makes sense to you.

You will remember that this is happening because there are fewer primary aged children in Sedbergh and therefore fewer children are coming to our school. We only have 16 children in our Reception class this year and only 12 in Nursery. Schools are funded based on the number of children who attend the school.

After Christmas we will have some meetings with parents to explain these changes in more detail. However, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me in school where I can hopefully help.

Many thanks in anticipation of your understanding in these matters.
