Free School Meals

Free School Meals

I would encourage all families to explore whether or not your child might be entitled to Free School Meals. For many of you with children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, you might think that this is not necessary as your child already receives a Free School Meal. This is because of the Government’s current policy of providing all infant aged children with a free meal. From Year 3 onwards your child’s meals would need to be paid for.

However, it is definitely worth applying for Free School Meals now as both you, your child and school will benefit from this for the duration of your child’s time at our school. The number of children we have on roll who are entitled to Free School Meals affects the school’s main budget. School will also receive additional funding so that your child will be entitled to subsidised trips and visits in the future.

Your child might be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit
