February updates

Monday 5th February 2018

Dear parents, carers and families,

I wanted to write with some updates prior to the half-term holiday that begins this Friday. School reopens to children on Monday 19th February.

‘Victorians’ Curriculum Week – We have taken the decision to postpone our planned curriculum week for after the half term break. This has been rescheduled for mid-June instead.

Fair Trade Fortnight begins on Monday 26th February. Over the fortnight the children will learn about the Fair Trade Foundation and how we can make changes to support their work. There will be a ‘Big Biscuit’ competition and a Fair Trade coffee morning on Thursday 8th March. Look out for further information in bags and on our website. Remember parents can purchase our Fair Trade uniform via the school website.

World Book Day events – For World Book Day children can participate in our ‘Book in a Box’ competition. Create a scene from your favourite book inside a box; entries need to be in school to be judged by the morning of Friday 2nd March. We will announce the winners in our Wonder of the Week assembly.

The school has also entered this year’s World Book Day ‘Flying High’ competition. Mrs Steel and Mrs Davies, with the help of all the classes, have transformed our library with creations and artwork inspired by books with a flying theme. Photos of our display will be entered in this national competition with the winners being announced on Thursday 1st March, World Book Day.

School communication App – our App is nearly ready. Shortly we will send out information to parents about how to download the app to both apple and android based devices. We will also run a training session for parents in school to guide you through how the app works.

Whole school parents’ meetings for every class except Year 6, are on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st March. An appointment letter will be coming home soon. Parents will be given a mid-year learning progress report at this point – a brief summary of your child’s current attainment and the progress they have made so far this year.

The PTFA Discos will run at the usual times on Friday 2nd March. The Promise Auction will take place on Friday 18th May. Please keep sending in your promises to auction off on the night, the deadline for these is 9th February.

School will send home a February Newsletter after the half-term break with further updates. Maybe the last one as a paper copy in book bags! I hope all of you have an enjoyable half-term break. We can look forward to better weather and longer days after the holiday.

Warm regards,

Matthew Towe
