Fairtrade Fun!

Fairtrade fortnight began with an assembly showing the benefits that Fairtrade brings to farmers who struggle to get fair payment for their products, such as being able to send their children to school rather than working on the farm. Teachers followed this up with lessons, many involving chocolate!

Next there was the ‘Big Fairtrade Biscuit’ competition, where pupils designed and baked a tasty biscuit using at least one Fairtrade ingredient. The expert judges from the Settlebeck kitchen, Pat, Olive and Jacqui skilfully whittled the fifty entries down to just five.  Local celebrity, Nina, from the famed ‘Three Hares Café, Bistro and Bakery’ in Sedbergh, kindly used her expert palate to nominate the ‘Best Big Biscuit Baker’ as Harry Dawson from Year 2.  Runners up were Hannah Taylor from Reception, Leah McVoy and Jessica Woof from Year 1 and Freya Houghton from Year 4.
